Ice pan is truly on of the GREATEST guiltless treats in all of Los Angeles! It's Located in the Target / Best Buy complex on Santa Monica Blvd, parking is underground.  Ice Pan is a new & creative Japaneses style ice (soy) cream parlor.
The best part is they make your personal customized selection RIGHT in front of you! How it works??  You first choose your milk choice, OF COURSE we choose SOY MILK.  Then you choose what flavor (chocolate, banana, pumpkin, strawberry, green tea, vanilla, ect)  and what you would like mixed in your cream.  They offer a HUGE selection of mixes but watch out they're not all VEGAN:-(  Next they clean, extremely well, the frozen pan and tools and throw in your liquid concoction.
Before your eyes the magic begins, they start smacking the slab of cream all around...be prepared for entertaining show!!   The greatest thing about the final product is it's only 1 GRAM of FAT for a HUGE TREAT!!!!  How do they do it??  They use Seaweed to simulate the texture and FOS sweetener ...clearly the healthiest ice cream EVER invented!
I LOVE the Vanilla w/ Strawberry and Fat Free Chocolate syrup on top.  Lex always enjoys his Green Tea soy cream w/ mango's on top.  Double YUM!

TJ's Tostadas

TJ's Blue Corn Tostadas

They're easy, fast, filling and most importantly inexpensive!!

Ever since discovering I spent over 50% of my yearly income going out to Vegan "Fat Fest" restaurants around LA, I decide to make commitment.  "This year I will be extremely HEALTHY & FRUGAL":-)  So far so good!!!  My TJ's Tostadas are not only good for your wallet but they one of my favorite Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner treats.  It's truly my ideal fat free meal all wrapped up in one!!
Trader Joe's Ingredients
     ~ TJ's Blue Corn Tortillas
~ TJ's Organic Romaine Salad
~ TJ's Organic Cherry Red Tomatoes
~Pintos
~Cilantro (WF)
~Near East Spanish Rice (WF)
~Wizards Hot Sauce (WF)
~Emerald Valley FRESH Salsa (WF)

*The Blue Corn Tortillas are somewhat tricky to bake. If I'm in a huge rush I'll just fold them like a taco and throw them in the toaster...not the greatest but it works:)  I suggest you place the tortillas fully on a cookie sheet in the middle oven rack.  Bake at a very low temperature (around 180F) in intervals of 10 mins.   By doing so, the tortilla will crisp up perfectly without burning!

*Spanish rice is simply fast to make on your stove top **DO NOT ADD THE SUGGESTED OIL**  it has a yeast extract that gives it the cheesy binding taste...yummy.  (start this first because it tastes 25 mins)

*drain & rinse the can of pintos and add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the fresh salsa to a non stick pot and simmer on low heat until the beans absorb the flavors. (I think this salsa was from Whole Foods, but you can grab something similar to everything in this recipe at TJ's we just had a bunch of the stuff on hand)

* I always rewash my prewashed lettuce and tomatoes:)  Cut both the veggies into a smaller bite size pieces.  In a small bowl place the cut tomatoes, Tsbp or more of hot sauce, and cilantro then mix.

* stack it all up like the pic

* Prep Time : 5 to 10 mins to toss everything in pots & chop tomatoes and by the time the rice is done (25mins) you are ready to pile on your TJ's Blue Corn Tostada!  SIMPLY DELICIOUS:-P

Healthy Vegan Pardise ~ A Votre Sante

A Votre Sante
13016 San Vicente Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90049
310-451-1813

It's hands down my favorite and healthiest vegan friendly place to eat at in all of LA. I love them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! BEST of all, a large amount of their menu items can be made Oil FREE.

My daily ritual is to stop in to enjoy a delicious cup of oil free vegan soup. They make 2 different vegan soups FRESH everyday!! (w/o oily corn muffins)

Split pea & Sweet Potato Soup ...YUM!

The entrees are HUGE and definitely fulfilling for two. Lex and I usually order a one of each soups (cup or bowl depending on our hunger level) and split one of the fabulous oil free entrees.  My absolute favorites are the Vegetarian Burrito and T&T.
VEGETARIAN BURRITO (Whole wheat tortilla, organic brown rice, salsa, tahini, black bean chili, carrot sauce, mixed green) (forgot to order w/o chips)
T & T (Tofu, corn tortilla, mushrooms, veggie chili, carrot sauce, brown rice, black beans, salsa).

I seriously would be happy eating those every single day...just that GOOD:) Don't miss out on the great oil free brown rice pastas, vegan steamed veggie bowls, and salads with Fat Free cilantro dressing. Plus, if you've been extra good you MUST indulge in their scrumptious low-fat vegan desserts! Breakfast is also a wonderful treat after a long morning walk or jog down San Vicente. I usually go with the Veggie Tofu Scramble with toast and a fruit sweeten lemonade. *Watch out those Breakfast Potatoes are NOT oil free!! You can order them w/o oil but they take forever and rarely come out fully cooked. They also, have two vegan corn pancakes which contain a small about of oil:-(

The Atmosphere is calm, casual, and clean. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Plus I guarantee you'll have a celeb sighting..lol:D

Time and Time again A Votre Sante NEVER disappoints! ... aside from when I get lured into devouring one of the little oily corn muffins w/ my vegan oil free soup and wake up with a zit on my chin the next day...yikes:P

Welcome to The Healthy Vegans

Over the past year and a half we have gone from "McDougaller's" (see drmcdougall.com) to Los Angeles super vegan food finders (see vegan-la.com) to over weight vegans in the span of only 5 months and then back to lower fat vegans and finally full circle to McDougallers for life.

What it means to be a McDougaller is that you eat a low fat starch (beans, rice, grains, potatoes) based diet with no added oils. We're not here to argue the starch diet or health info, you can do that over at the Dr. McDougall forums with real nutritionists and Dr. McDougall himself. We have learned it all first hand and live the results. We are now leading by example and through this blog letting people know that the low fat vegan lifestyle can be exciting, flavorful and a total Vegan Foodie Adventure, too.

So what do I know about Vegan Food? Well follow this blog and you will see. According to the owners of Happycow.net I have written more restaurant reviews than anyone else on the planet (around 500) You can view my profile here Gr8Vegan I've eaten every manner of Vegan food there is and stay on top of all the latest vegan vices. I don't miss a thing, in fact I have a whole lot more to look forward to!

We find healthy vegan food on the go, and set a goal of no more than 15 minutes total kitchen time for our prepared meals. Finally, we do our best to keep it real and include receipts so you know what you're in for with each meal.
