True Food Kitchen -Hip Healthy Haven!

True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica Place opened a few weeks ago.  Its the latest location in a chain started in part by Dr. Andrew Weil (the overweight doctor with the beard).  While Dr. Weil's food pyramid has some major flaws (fats, fish, cheese, nuts, lean meats, eggs, barf).  The remainder of it is surprisingly positive.  Vegan items are clearly marked on the menu and the servers and chefs are highly trained to help customers with customizing around food around their dietary needs.

We started with some fun juice combos (they come with or w/o booze too!)  Here is Kristin trying out the HangoverRX  - coconut water, orange juice and pineapple.

The Healthy Vegan Lettuce Wraps = Shiitake & Tofu Lettuce Cups MINUS Cashew & any any oily bits with a side of Tamari sauce.  These were so good we doubled down on them.

Our main was the Teriyaki Brown Rice Bowl minus the unhealthy bits.  It ended up being super boring and minimal, but it was top quality veg.   Next time we're going to challenge the staff a little harder to get our $13 bucks worth...  Now I know a lot of you are cringing at that price for a plate of steamed veggies and rice, but this is a sleek top notch restaurant in the highest rent trendiest area of Santa Monica.  We were surrounded by celebrities.

Now to the desserts!  Most of which are vegan and dairy free.  The fresh sorbets below are made with just coconut water, agave and fruit or nut milk.  The pistachio is incredible (of course we didn't eat the nuts and on our next visit we ordered it with blueberries instead of nuts).  Its still a more decadent dessert vs the fruit sorbet, but we did ride our twike there!
