If you live outside Los Angeles you may still be familiar with Follow Your Heart. Yes they produce vegan cheese, mayo and other totally fatty calorie bombs. However, their restaurant at their mothership grocery store location is full of real whole food with some proper navigation. Even their famous Rueben is served with carrots sliced up like chips vs their baked (still oily) french fries.

Push all the temptation aside and you can get yourself a rare (try to find one in LA) baked potato and custom oil-free chili.

Additional healthy items include soft tacos with beans, rice, salsa, steamed veggies. You can hack out these healthful whole ingredients into a wrap as well. (Note that their wrap and corn tortillas may be fatty.)
Make sure to sprinkle on some Brother Bru-Bru's Hot pepper sauce to add a kick.
The bottom line is that the cooks at FYH are super cool at customizing anything depending on how busy they are at your order. They are used to salt free, fat free, allergen free cooking. Just don't be fooled by "low fat" noted items on their wall. It really means lower fat than deep frying, which is like saying I'll take my health being shot with a 9mm over a shot gun.

thanks so much for posting this! we are trying to remain oil-free for the most part, and REALLY love and need restaurant suggestions.
is the chili naturally oil-free, or did you have to ask for it like that? also, are there any other menu items you'd recommend?

I don't think the chili is naturally oil free, but it only took them a minute to whip it up... so maybe it was. Basically you can take any ingredients on the FYH menu and rock out what ever you want. They are super cool there as long as they aren't slammed, if they are slammed just get sides of everything and craft it yourself.
Will definitely work on more restaurants!
